Honourable Dr. Phenyo Butale officiated at the 66th Independence Anniversary of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), as the Guest of honour. The ceremony was hosted by the Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Mr. Mutombo Kambila Patrick. In his remarks, Minister Butale congratulated the Government and people of the DRC for the 66th Anniversary, remarking that the day was one of celebration and reflection of milestones realised to attain freedom and build a better tomorrow for future generations.

The Minister also expressed appreciation for the strong bonds of friendship enjoyed by the DRC and Botswana noting that over the years, the two countries have continued to stand and work together in pursuit of peace and development. Furthermore, the Minister praised the DRC for being a blessed country with extraordinary natural wealth, vibrant people and for its contributions in shaping Africa’s future.

On his part, His Excellency Ambassador Mutombo Kambila Patrick, informed that the 66th Anniversary marked a significant moment in the DRC’s history as 30th June 1960, represented the day the Congolese people achieved independence and took their destiny into their own hands. The Ambassador also touched on the future aspirations of the county including the ongoing comprehensive reform process aimed at enhancing the business climate, attracting investment and fostering inclusive and sustainable growth. Additionally, Ambassador Mutombo Kambila Patrick thanked Honourable Butale for officiating the occasion and expressed gratitude to all present and their States, for their friendship, mutual respect and solidarity shared with the DRC and her peoples.
