The opening ceremony of the Senior Officials segment of the Inaugural Session of the Botswana-Lesotho Bi-National Commission took place this morning in Gaborone. The ceremony was co-chaired by Ambassador Thuso Ramodimoosi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of International Relations – Botswana; and his counterpart, Ambassador Thabang Lekhela, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations – Lesotho.
This first BNC marks a new chapter in the bilateral relations of the two countries. It will provide both nations with a more robust platform for enhanced cooperation on a broad range of issues of mutual interest, including defence and security, political, as well as socio-economic matters. When delivering his remarks during the opening ceremony, Ambassador Ramodimoosi underscored that the Inaugural Session was historic and that it affirmed the enduring friendship between Botswana and Lesotho, as well as the shared commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation at the highest political level. He also noted that the BNC provided both countries with the opportunity to deliver tangible benefits for their citizens through enhanced economic cooperation, greater policy coordination, and deeper regional integration. The Senior Officials segment will be held from 15th to 16th June 2026, ahead of the Ministerial Segment which will take place on 17th June 2026.
